2021 Terroir Al Limit Terra de Cuques Negre, Priorat, Catalonia, Spain

The Terra de Cuques wines are Terroir al Limit’s answer to a village wine from Burgundy. The red comes from vineyards around the town of Torroja, the coldest part of Priorat. The vineyards are situated at 350–400 meters altitude, farmed biodynamically, and everything is done by hand. Composed of 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan, the wine undergoes natural fermentation with whole clusters in cement tanks, where it also ages for about 14 months before being bottled unfiltered. As soon as the wine hits the glass, a fantastic dark yet fresh aroma unfolds, packed with notes of licorice, garrigue herbs, black tea, blackberries, and dark red flowers. No one tames Carignan’s wild character better than Terroir al Limit. On the palate, Carignan contributes depth, dark fruit, and licorice, while Grenache’s elegance defines the structure and expression of the wine. A superb wine for virtually all kinds of meat that has been roasted or preferably grilled, served with a rich sauce and herbs. Can be cellared for up to 15 years from the harvest. If enjoyed young, we recommend giving it some air before serving at 14–15°C.
