2023 Raúl Pérez Domaines Lupier - El Terroir Spain

Raúl Pérez acquired Domaine Lupier in Navarra in 2022, and the 2023 vintage is the first produced entirely under his direction. El Terroir comes from vines up to 100 years old grown across six parcels around San Martín de Unx at elevations of 600-700 metres. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, using 100% whole clusters and a long, cool maceration of up to 40 days. The wine is then aged for 12 months in old 500-litre oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. The bouquet bursts from the glass with intense aromas of raspberries, strawberries, violets, sweet liquorice and garrigue. Forget heavy, traditional Navarra Garnacha; Raúl harvests earlier than his neighbours, resulting in a wine with only 13% alcohol and a beautifully bright red colour. The style recalls the finest and most elegant Grenache wines of the Southern Rhône. An outstanding partner for virtually all grilled or roasted meats, particularly well-seasoned lamb.
