PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, also known under the trade name Teflon®* PTFE O-rings are special sealing elements, and they are used where standard elastomer O-rings are not sufficient. PTFE O-rings should only be used statically under appropriate working conditions and are not recommended for dynamic and rotating movements. Compared to other sealing elements, component development is made easier with the use of O-rings, as they take up less space and provide double-acting sealing. Relevant precautions must be taken, the right materials selected, and an appropriate surface quality on metal parts ensured to achieve a good result with O-rings. *Teflon® is a registered trademark of DuPont Performance Elastomers.
