Carlsberg extends and expands agreement with Lemvigh-Müller

The new agreement covers the next three years and aims to make the supply of personal protective equipment more efficient across Carlsberg’s production facilities in 22 countries in Western Europe.

Occupational health and safety are core priorities for Carlsberg and is rooted in a “Zero Accidents” culture. All Carlsberg locations are certified with an occupational health and safety management system that complies with ISO 45001, and continuous investments are made to improve workplace safety.

When Carlsberg entered into its first agreement with Lemvigh-Müller in 2019 for the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) in 18 countries, the objective was to create a more standardized and scalable solution. Previously, Carlsberg’s sites sourced PPE from various suppliers, with differences in product range, processes, and availability.

Today, procurement has been consolidated with Lemvigh-Müller, giving Carlsberg a unified overview and a consistent approach across locations. The agreement includes personal protective equipment (PPE) such as workwear, safety shoes, gloves, and hearing protection. In addition, Lemvigh-Müller now also supplies equipment for hygienic areas, such as shovels, brooms, dustpans, and other cleaning tools.

The new agreement means that Lemvigh-Müller provides a fixed assortment of more than 650 item numbers available to Carlsberg. In addition, Carlsberg has access to a further 34,000 item numbers in Lemvigh-Müller’s range, including safety shoes, fall protection, first aid, and other products that help ensure safe production operations.

Automated Inventory Management – Without the Risk of Running Out

A key part of the collaboration is Lemvigh-Müller’s SmartLager solution, which is currently used by Carlsberg in France. SmartLager is an automated inventory management system available directly at the production sites: through dispensing machines, Carlsberg employees can collect items such as work gloves and other PPE. When stock reaches a predefined minimum level, the system automatically reorders. At the same time, the machines track consumption by department, ensuring accurate cost allocation.

When replenishment is needed, Lemvigh-Müller’s warehouse in Kolding is notified, picks and ships the goods, after which Carlsberg’s local teams refill the machines themselves. As part of the new agreement, Lemvigh-Müller is expected to implement more SmartLager machines in additional Carlsberg countries.

A Partnership Based on Shared Values and Transparent Dialogue

The collaboration is not only about supply, but also about development, advisory support, and continuous improvement. Carlsberg places great emphasis on a close relationship and direct, transparent dialogue. Both companies have deep roots in Danish business and share a set of values that help foster trust and momentum in the partnership.

Jarosław Juszczyk, S.Manager H&S WE Region, Carlsberg Group, highlights the importance of the collaborative approach:

Lemvigh-Müller is more than a supplier to us. They understand our daily operations in production and work proactively with suggestions that make it easier for us to maintain a high level of safety across locations. We also have an open and transparent dialogue where things are said directly. That builds trust and makes it easier to develop solutions together as needs evolve.

Allan Smidt, Key Account Manager at Lemvigh-Müller, adds:

For Carlsberg, it is about operational reliability and standardized processes across countries. Our role is to be a single point of contact while also acting as an active partner who continuously contributes improvement proposals and new knowledge about PPE and solutions.

➡️ With the extended agreement, Lemvigh-Müller is a one-stop shop for Carlsberg’s procurement of PPE and selected related products in 22 countries.

➡️ SmartLager: Automated consumption monitoring and reordering to ensure operations and availability.

➡️ Extensive range: 650+ fixed item numbers and access to more than 34,000 additional items.
