Solar panels and clamps for measurement are rarely in the same place; the solar panels are, for example, on the roof, and the connection terminals are at the inverter inside the building.
With the A1378 PV Remote, ambient parameters such as solar intensity (requires A1427 PV Reference Cell) and temperature (requires A1400 PV Temperature Probe) can be measured at the solar panel, while the master instrument (e.g. MI3109) measures current and voltage elsewhere. Before measurement, PV Remote and master instrument are synchronized via cable connection, which is subsequently disconnected; after measurement, measurement data is transferred to the master instrument, which can now process measured values, convert to STC values and display I-V curves.
The A1378 PV Remote has one input for measuring solar radiation and two inputs for measuring temperature.
