A thread plug gage is used to check acceptance of a “nut” and/or part with internal thread. For small threaded parts, typically from size M1-M39, the gage will be double ended, with one end carrying the GO gage and the other end, the NOGO gage. From M40 and up the gage is typically supplied as 2 parts, one being the GO-gage and the other the NOGO-gage. A thread plug gage is designed to check the pitch diameter (to the given pitch / Threads per inch). In order for the part to pass inspection and be accepted, the GO gage should pass through the entire length of the thread without requiring too much rotational force. If unable to do so, the thread does not meet the requested standard. The NOGO side of the thread plug gauge must not be able to be manually turned more than two turns into the cut thread (without using excessive force). If it can be screwed in more, the thread does not meet the requested standards. The reference temperature for parts and gauges is 20° Celsius. A calibration certificate can be offered for all sizes and types of gauges upon request (price on request).
