PROFINET IO er en feltbusprotokol, der muliggør kommunikation mellem programmerbare styringer og distribuerede feltenheder i et Ethernet-netværk.
Adaptermodulet fungerer som en ProfiNet I/O-enhed med understøttelse af PROFIdrive, ABB Drives, Transparent 16-bit og Transparent 32-bit. Standard UDP/IP- og TCP/IP-kanalen anvendes til parametrisering og konfiguration af enheder og til acykliske operationer. Realtids (RT)-kanalen anvendes til cyklisk dataoverførsel og alarmer. Den isokrone realtidskanal (IRT) understøttes ikke.
